SAKURA TIPSは、日本語リスニングのPodcastです。

今日のテーマは日本人の英語力についてです。

みなさんは、英語が話せる日本人を知っていますか?
残念ながら、日本では、英語を話せる人が少ないです。
しかし、日本人は小学校から中学校、そして高校・大学で、英語の勉強をしています。

私が小さい頃は、小学5年くらいから、英語の授業が始まりました。
でもたぶん今は、小学1年生から英語を勉強していると思います。
なので、日本人は12年間、大学に行くと16年間英語を勉強します。
しかし、英語が話せる人は少ないです。

これは、なぜかと言うと、日本の英語のレッスンは、試験のための授業です。
高校入試・大学入試の試験勉強のために英語を勉強します。
なので、スピーキングのテストは一切ありません。
主に、文法やリーディングです。
あと少しリスニングですね。
なので、学校で英語を勉強しても、英語を話せるようにはなりません。

最近は少しずつ変わってきているようです。
早く日本人が英語を話せるようになればいいなと思います。

Today’s theme is about the English ability of Japanese people.

Do you know any Japanese people who can speak English?
Unfortunately, there are not many people in Japan who can speak English.
However, Japanese people study English in elementary school, junior high school, high school and university.

When I was kid, English classes started in about the fifth grade.
But nowadays, I think they study English from the first grade.
So, Japanese people study English for 12 years, or 16 years if they go to university.
However, there are few people who can speak English.

The reason for this is that English lessons in Japan are for exams.
We study English to prepare for high school and university entrance exams.
Therefore, there are no speaking tests at all.
It’s mainly grammar and reading.
And a little bit of listening.
So, studying English at school will not make us a good speaker of English.

Recently, this seems to be changing little by little.
I hope Japanese people will be able to speak English soon.
