Hello, everyone.
SAKURA TIPS is a Japanese listening Podcast.

————————–

Today’s theme is about negotiation.

Do you often negotiate in your country?
In Japan, we don’t negotiate much.
Almost never.

The price of a cab or a product in a store is the same for everyone.
The price is the same no matter who buys it.
There is almost no opportunity to negotiate.
When I traveled around Southeast Asia and lived in Cebu Island for three months, I had to negotiate every day.
It was very hard.
For example, buying a hat, buying clothes, you have to negotiate.
Cabs were very difficult.
Every time I was told a high price, it was very difficult to negotiate and say, “That’s too expensive,” or “Normally, it would be this much.”
But if I didn’t do that, Japanese people would get really ripped off, so I had to look up such things and negotiate a reasonable price.

In Japan, there are few opportunities to negotiate, but I am currently negotiating my rent.
Rent can be negotiated in Japan.
In my previous house, I was able to negotiate the rent.
I talked to the landlord and got a 5,000 yen discount.
At the house before that, I think I got about 2,000 yen cheaper.
So, I’m trying my best to negotiate this time.
I’m still waiting for a response, so I don’t know what will happen, but I’m hoping it will go well.

Are you good at negotiating?
