今日のテーマは、年齢についてです。
みなさんの国では、年齢を聞くことは普通ですか？
それとも、年齢を聞くことは失礼ですか？
日本では、人によりますが、特に女性に年齢を聞くことは失礼です。
ですが、多くの日本人が、人に年齢を聞きます。
1年くらい前、もっとか、1年半くらい前、私は東京のソーシャルパーティーに参加しました。
そこは、出会いの場ではありますが、男女の出会いの場ではありません。
共通の趣味を持った人が集まるようなパーティーですね。
そこに参加しました。
その時、２７歳の男性が、私に、何度も何度も年齢を聞いてきました。
私は、答えたくないとハッキリ言ったのですが、その後も何度も聞いてきて、すごく嫌でした。
私は、海外に住んだこともありますが、年齢を聞かれたことは一度もありません。
なぜ日本人男性、特に若い日本人男性は、女性に年齢を聞くんですかね。
それが失礼だって分からないのでしょうか。
私のTwitterとかでは、たまに「なぜ日本人男性は」という言葉が出てきますが、別に日本人男性を悪く言っているつもりはないです。
事実です。
これを聞いている皆さんは、女性に年齢を聞くことはないとは思いますが、ぜひ気をつけましょう。

Today’s theme is about age.
In your country, is it normal to ask someone’s age?
Or is it rude to ask someone’s age?
In Japan, it depends on the person, but it is rude to ask someone’s age, especially to women.
However, many Japanese people do ask people their age.
About a year ago, or more like a year and a half ago, I attended a social party in Tokyo.
It was a place to meet people, but not a place for men and women to meet.
It’s the kind of party where people with common interests gather.
I joined that kind of the party.
At that time, a 27-year-old man asked me my age over and over again.(He told me his age even though I didn’t ask)
I told him clearly that I didn’t want to answer, but he kept asking me again and again, and I really didn’t like it.
I’ve lived abroad before, but I’ve never been asked my age.
Why do Japanese men, especially young Japanese men, ask women their age?
Don’t they know that it is rude?
On my Twitter feed and elsewhere, the phrase “why Japanese men….” sometimes comes up, but I don’t mean to speak ill of Japanese men.
It’s a fact.
I’m sure that none of you who are listening to this will ever ask a woman her age, but you should definitely be careful.
