English

Hello, everyone.
This is Mari.
SAKURA TIPS is a Japanese listening Podcast.

Today’s theme is about Kanji.

Have you been studying Kanji?
How many kanji do you know?

In Japan, there are about 2,100 kanji that are commonly used in daily life.
That’s quite a lot, isn’t it?
These 2,100 kanji are studied over a period of nine years, from first grade to nine grade.

Japanese children learn a lot of kanji at school.
When I was little, I always had kanji homework.
There was also a weekly kanji test.
If you didn’t pass the test, you had to take the test again.
So, Japanese children study a lot of kanji.

I looked at 2100 kanji.
I found out that some of them are not used very often.
So, in my opinion, about 1500 kanji are used in daily life.
To be honest, there were some kanji I couldn’t read.
They are kanji that I have forgotten because I don’t use them on a regular basis.

I think it’s hard to study with so many kanji.
However, let’s try to learn at least one kanji every day.
